What do you mean, you created your own music genre?
Have you heard of Yacht Rock? If not, this might not make a lot of sense to you. But read on anyway. You might learn something, or be entertained. Who knows?
A bit of Yacht Rock history
Note: Not all Yacht Rockers appreciate their music being called Yacht Rock.
In the 1970s a few bands like Toto, Steely Dan and Christopher Cross, created the most lucious and gorgeous sounding music. Some years later this was dubbed Yacht Rock.
The music simply sounds expensive, and could probably be enjoyed on a Yacht.
Why Cabin Cruiser Rock?
My music is inspired by the Yacht Rock of yesteryear, but it's just a bit more scruffy. Not as expensive. So I figured, a Cabin Cruiser is cheaper boat, might as well go with that.
Imagine that the guys from Steely Dan grew up on KISS and Iron Maiden. Their musical output would probably not be quite as smooth. And then imagine them growing up in a small town on the Norwegian west coast, their music just might have been affected.
But what about that funky blues you used to play?
Yeah, I know. When I released my second album Vegtrafikkloven (The Road Traffic Act - in Norwegian), a local music reviewer called the album a future Northern Norwegian blues classic.
For a while I had been unsure what to label my music, so I embraced the blues and called my music "Funky blues rooted in rock with a touch of jazz harmony".
But that doesn't exactly roll off your tounge does it?
No.
So I needed something shorter.
That's the story behind Cabin Cruiser Rock - the genre that nobody understands (except you, of course)
